Tap Into Your Creativity

We need creativity more than ever to respond to our constantly changing world and the environmental context. Here are some tips for maximizing your creativity!

Get it out

  • Write down what you need to say. Get it all down on paper.

  • Draw what you are visioning. Fundamental to creativity is expressing yourself in different ways because this is how new ideas are created.

  • Don’t judge before finishing your thoughts. Don’t filter or edit, just get it down first.

Put your distractions away

  • Did you know it takes a minimum of 12 minutes to get back to the creative space you were in when you took that call or answered that text (but it will only be a minute to respond, yes true, yet it takes a minimum of 1/4 of an hour to get back to that space you were in!).

  • Make your space a productive and enjoyable environment to be distraction-free. Some questions to consider: What’s your workspace like? Do you have fresh air available to you if that is important? Does your chair feel comfortable?

Don’t focus on time

  • Time pressures push us into the left brain and away from the right. The right brain support curiosity.

  • Time decreases the window we want to ultimately widen in order to maximize our creativity.

Have fun

  • Don’t take yourself too seriously. Not an artist? That is okay, you don’t have to be in order to tap into your creativity.

  • Let go of old ideas to let new ones in. Tapping into what is fun for you when it comes to being creative will support this.

  • Breath. Pause. Laugh. Find your inner kid.
